Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMT) are qualified in basic and limited advanced emergency medical care. AEMTs are able to recognize, assess, and manage medical and trauma emergencies. AEMT primarily provide pre-hospital emergency care to acutely ill or injured patients. An EMT certification is the basis for the AEMT program and demonstrates that the participant has clinical skills and knowledge to support the skills needed in the AEMT program.

  • Have a valid state or U.S Government issued picture identification
  • Complete a Best Practice Medication registration application
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent

Course and Study Commitment:

You will spend over 200 hours in the classroom and online with an addition 72 hours of clinical rotations for patient observations. To say the least, this course is INTENSE and moves very quickly! It requires MATURITY, DEDICATION, and plenty of extra STUDY time. We suggest that for every classroom hour you attend you must commit to an additional hour of outside study.

If you are an MSU student with a heavy course load, we do NOT recommend taking the course. In previous courses, MSU students who carried heavy academic course loads had a very hard time completing this course.

Attendance and Exam Policy:

You may not miss more than eight class hours and must attend all scheduled lab sessions due to the critical nature of the material. You must pass all exams with a minimum score of 70% to continue in the course.

Associated Course Costs

Please be aware that there are additional costs not covered in the course tuition that are associated with student liability insurance, immunization requirements, and post-course licensing-testing fees.

  • Proof of liability insurance is required for each student on the first class day: $40

NOTE: after you graduate this course there are investment costs you should be aware of, associated with licensing exams and applications.

  • National Registry exam fee: $80
  • State Licensing application fee: $70
  • National Practitioner Database Self-Query: $4
  • National Independent Psychomotor Skills Exam Fee: $190
